Welcome to the Odyssey Psychotherapy Website

My name is Jeremy Young and I offer psychosynthesis counselling and psychotherapy, both long and short term. I also offer psychosynthesis life coaching.

For more information please see the About page.

My Approach

I offer psychosynthesis psychotherapy and counselling.

Psychosynthesis is an holistic approach to living and explores how we wish to express ourselves in the world. It works with the mind, feelings, body and spirit and holds the context that within each of us is the potential for our deepest sense of identity and purpose to emerge.

What I Offer

How I work

Experience

Psychotherapy and Counselling

I have experience working with a wide range of concerns and issues including childhood trauma, addiction, depression, anxiety, low self-esteem and other complex issues.

I have worked as a therapist and group facilitator within both the mental health ward and addiction treatment program at Priory Hospital North London and within the addiction treatment program at Priory Hospital Roehampton. I was a part of the therapeutic team setting up Priory’s new residential secondary addiction care service in Mill Hill, London. As a part of my private practice, I now work with people who are in recovery from addiction. More recently, I was the clinical lead at Crossroads Counselling (Bethnal Green) and also for City and East London Bereavement Service.

Developmental Trauma

As a result of developmental trauma, adults may struggle to emotionally self-regulate and develop and maintain healthy interpersonal relationships

There are various reasons for developmental trauma to occur. The underlying nature is when a child is exposed to overwhelming stress and their caregiver does not help reduce this stress, or is the cause of the stress, the child experiences developmental trauma.

Adverse childhood experiences include early loss, neglect, abuse and household dysfunction, e.g., children witnessing domestic abuse, alcoholism/substance use in their household.

Even though we may not have explicit memories that we can recollect does not mean that overwhelming distress during early childhood does not have an impact in our being as we grow up and into adult life. The body remembers what may be unconscious to the mind.

As a psychosynthesis psychotherapist and counsellor I work with helping to identify developmental trauma, drawing upon maps and models to help with understanding dysfunction and unhealthy and outdated modes of being.

Life Coaching

I also work as a psychosynthesis life coach, offering focused work for individuals who have a specific goal oriented need.
